Fossil fuel

Zanzibar currently imports all of its fossil fuels from international markets, or refineries on the mainland. The different types of fuels are generally used as follows:
 
  • Petroleum is mainly used for transport
  • Jet fuel is exclusively used for aviation
  • Kerosene mainly used for lighting
  • LPG is used for cooking
  • Diesel is used mainly used for transport but also for electricity generation.
The data are collected and provided by the Zanzibar Utilities Regulatory Authority (ZURA)

Fossil Fuels Import (Unguja)

If you have problems viewing the file in Excel, you should:
  1. Open a new file
  2. Go to "Data" menu and choose "Get external Data from Text/CSV"
  3. Choose the CSV file you downloaded
  4. In the popin select "My data has headers" and "Delimiters": COMMA
  5. Click finish (or load)
All fossil fuels, including kerosene for ligthing, consumed on Zanzibar are imported. The import numbers indicate when fuels are put in storage on Unguja. The Zanzibar Utilities Regulatory Authority (ZURA) collect these data on a monthly basis.
